Apple

Storing a piece of apple for emergencies...

Sophie has a habit of demanding for food and then stuffing them in her mouth until it gets too full to chew. Eventually we have to pry open her mouth & dig something out.

Rain

After a sumptious lobster noodles lunch sponsored by Fuh Yong & Francis at Mandarin Kitchen in Bayswater (congratulations on passing the exams!), we headed home as happy as schoolboys with a satisfied stomach.

On the way home, we were caught in a little playful drizzle that, unfortunately, picked up force relentlessly. Our casual trot turned into a mad race home, and here is the result:

...soaked

Sophie was nice and dry on the baby carrier, covered by her Baba's voluminous jacket, and was amused with her parents' panting run. She laughed all the way home.

Sucker

I can't remember what they called this thing, so I call it the Mucus Sucker.

Sophie have been nursing a cold over the last few days. She does not know how to sneeze or cough out the copious amount of mucus from her throat & nose, and so ends up waking up several times during the night because she couldn't breathe well.

I was describing this contraption to Aunty Su-En over MSN Messenger and for clarity's sake (also to educate other young mommies, if you haven't seen one of these things yet), here's a photo of it. Here's how you use it:

1. Place the bulbous white part of the Sucker that is attached to the container into one of the nostrils of the baby. Make sure it is inserted properly to form a proper seal.
2. Suck from the other end of the plasticky bendy tube. Mucus gets sucked into the see-through container. Parent should not have to gag from accidentally swallowing any misdirected mucus.
4. Repeat steps 1 & 2 with the other nostril.
5. Comfort bawling, shocked & stressed baby.
5. Clean the contraption and re-use.

So far, we have been mildly succesful in dislodging some of the stuff from Sophie's nose, which at least helps her to get back to sleep breathing properly for a while.

Good luck to all of you out there with sickly young babies!

Mid Autumn Festival

We took Sophie on her first lantern walk the day after the Mid Autumn Festival. (She was too tired on the evening of the actual day) The moon was pregnant with light, and it was a cool night. The crisp night wind accompanied us as we walked along the Thames river just behind our house.

Sophie was fascinated by the lantern - needless to say - and violently flung it all over the place. It was difficult to get her to walk safely with it on her own, so we had to carry her & the lantern. Next year, .... PIGGY CAKES & MOONCAKES!
